While we are already well into the Winter months and most people are thinking about Springtime, we thought it would be a good idea to give some additional information on the importance of properly Winterizing a swimming pool during the cold Winter months in the DFW region.
While most pool owners have a tendency to neglect their pools this time of year, Winter is actually a very important time of year to ensure your pool is being properly maintained and managed.
The primary purpose of Winterizing a pool is to protect it from potential damage due to freezing water. Freezing water can create cracks, leading to a cascade of costly repairs down the road.
Below are some essential points that you should be aware of to ensure your pool is well protected from the elements this Winter:
For In-Ground Pools:
- Check Water Chemistry to Ensure Proper pH and Alkalinity
- Add Necessary Winterizing Chemicals
- Thoroughly Clean Filter
- Remove and Properly Store All Detachable Accessories (Ladders, Skimmer Baskets, etc)
- Remove All Leaves and Other Debris
- Lower Water Level Line
- Drain All Plumbing Lines
- Empty Chemical Feeder
- Install Pool Cover
If you are unsure of any of the above steps, it is recommended that you contact a pool service technician to assist you. Improper Winterization can result in damage to your pool, pump, filter, and other related accessories.
